Four Aimeliik students have become the inaugural recipients of the Rengulbai Brikul Scholarship, turning a decades-old commitment into reality and opening new educational opportunities for the next generation.
AIMELIIK, Palau — Four students from Aimeliik State have become the first recipients of the Rengulbai Brikul Scholarship, marking the realization of a vision first established nearly four decades ago to support the educational aspirations of Aimeliik youth.

The inaugural scholarship awards were presented June 5 to Palin N. Marcil, Welavin I. Ueki, Macy K. Iramk and Kamealani D. Kyota during a ceremony attended by state leaders, family members and community supporters.
Among the recipients, Macy Kesiil Iramk is a sophomore at Oregon State University, where she is pursuing a degree in zoology, while Kamealani Desy Kyota is a sophomore at Eastern Oregon University studying pre-law.

Welavin Iwong Ueki recently graduated from high school and plans to attend Highline College in Des Moines, Washington, this fall. Palin N. Marcil will start his studies at Palau Community College.
To qualify for the scholarship, students were required to maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and either have at least one parent who is a registered voter of Aimeliik State or, if 18 years of age or older, be a registered Aimeliik voter themselves.
The award ceremony was witnessed by Governor Browny Simer, members of the Aimeliik State Legislature, representatives of the Aimeliik State Public Land Authority, community members and several children of the late Rengulbai Brikul Ngiruchelbad, for whom the scholarship is named.
According to state officials, the late Chief Rengulbai Ngiruchelbad played a key role in the initial negotiations for a 1986 land lease agreement involving the development of a golf course in Aimeliik. As part of the negotiated benefits, the agreement included provisions for scholarship funding for Aimeliik students.
Forty years later, that commitment has culminated in the awarding of the first scholarships, providing educational opportunities for future generations of Aimeliik students.
