His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, presided today, Friday, over the military parade organized by the General Staff of the Armed Forces, commemorating the 65th anniversary of National Independence Day.
His Excellency the President, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mohamed Vall Rais, saluted the formations participating in the parade from the Army, Gendarmerie, National Guard, and Police, whose performance reflected the readiness of the Armed Forces and their capabilities in preserving the homeland and defending its territorial integrity.
The parade ceremony took place in the presence of the First Lady, Dr. Mariam Fadel Dah, the Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Djay, the President of the National Assembly, Mr. Mohamed Bamba Maguat, the President of the Constitutional Council, Mr. Diallo Mamadou Batia, the leader of the Democratic Opposition Foundation, Mr. Hamadi Sid El Mokhtar, the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, the Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic, Mr. Nani Ould Chrougha, the two Ministers-Advisors to the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Cheikh Abdallah Ben Beyah, and Ms. Aissata Ba Yahya, members of the government, leaders of the military establishment, heads of political formations, a group of invitees, and residents of the capital, Nouakchott, who flocked in large numbers since the early morning hours to watch the military parade.
