In an international context marked by significant geopolitical tensions that have led to supply chain disruptions and a significant rise in hydrocarbon prices on global markets, with direct repercussions on citizens’ cost of living, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh Elghazouni, presided today over a working meeting dedicated to assessing the situation and its repercussions on the national economy, as well as examining appropriate mechanisms to address this surge in prices.
On this occasion, a thorough assessment was made of the repercussions of this situation on all sectors of the national economy, along with an evaluation of the measures taken by the government to address it.
Following the discussions, the President of the Republic instructed the Government to identify, as soon as possible, appropriate measures to address this exceptional situation. He emphasized the need to implement concrete, coordinated, and effective actions to contain the surge in fuel prices and mitigate its impact on the national economy.
The President of the Republic also emphasized the imperative of preserving citizens’ purchasing power by ensuring that negative repercussions on households—particularly the most vulnerable—are limited as much as possible.
The Government was also urged to closely monitor developments in the international economic landscape and to adapt public policies accordingly, to ensure the country’s economic and social stability. On this occasion, an appeal was made to citizens to fully recognize the efforts made by the State and the gravity of the situation, and to contribute, through responsible behavior—particularly in terms of energy conservation—to mitigating the effects of these exceptional circumstances.
