The remains of the late Iroojlaplap and President Christopher Loeak was returned to Majuro, on a charter flight in the afternoon of August 28. His casket was accompanied by family members.

They were met at the airport by an honor guard of RMI national policemen who provided an escort to Uliga Church for the state funeral.

President Hilda Heine and First Gentleman Tommy Kijiner, Jr. led a lineup of top RMI leadership who attended the state funeral to pay their respects to the family of the late iroojlaplap.

That same evening, after the state funeral concluded, the casket was moved to the Loeak residence in the Blue Lagoon area of Majuro where the funeral activities continued until Saturday morning, with thousands of local residents coming to pay their respects to the family.

Friday and Saturday, ships departed for Ailinglaplap with passengers and cargo for the burial ceremony on the central atoll, which is where previous iroojlaplap in the Loeak royal family are also buried.

On Saturday, Loeak’s remains along with accompanying family members flew to Ailinglaplap on Air Marshall Islands for the burial ceremony.
