The Potato Agrarian Festival: Tradition, Fun And Flavour!

The picturesque village of Qrendi will once again host the much-loved Festival Agrarju tal-Patata (Potato Agrarian Festival), a lively celebration of Maltese agricultural heritage, traditional village life, local gastronomy, and family entertainment.

Taking place on Sunday 7th June from 9:00 AM onwards in the charming Pjazza tal-Maqluba, the festival offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the authentic rural character of southern Malta while enjoying a full day of activities for all ages.

Organised by the Qrendi Local Council, the festival highlights the importance of the potato in Maltese agriculture, particularly in the fertile fields surrounding Qrendi, an area long associated with traditional farming practices and local produce. The event combines culture, food, entertainment, and community spirit in one of Malta’s most scenic village settings.

Visitors can explore a wide selection of potato-based dishes, ranging from traditional Maltese recipes to more innovative culinary creations. One of the festival’s most popular attractions is the famous potato ice cream, a unique local delicacy that has become a signature experience of the event.

Throughout the day, the square will come alive with music, live performances, and family-friendly entertainment. Children can enjoy dedicated games and activities, while adults can soak up the festive atmosphere and discover local traditions. The programme also includes the traditional blessing of animals, reflecting the agricultural roots and community values of the village.

This year’s entertainment lineup features several well-known Maltese artists and performers, including Claudia Faniello, Fabrizio Faniello, Glenn Vella, Ozzy Lino, Jessica, Domnic Cini, Joemike and Lydon, Klikka, and performances by local children, all hosted by presenter Ron Briffa.

Set against the backdrop of the iconic Maqluba area and the traditional village core of Qrendi, the festival offers both locals and tourists a memorable cultural experience that blends Maltese tradition with modern family entertainment.

Whether you are visiting for the food, the music, the traditions, or simply to experience the warm atmosphere of a Maltese village feast, the Festival Agrarju tal-Patata promises an enjoyable and authentic day out for everyone.
