Ryanair has announced the launch of six new winter routes from Malta to Glasgow, Gothenburg, Luxembourg, Newcastle, Norwich, and Palma, further strengthening its position as Malta’s largest airline group.
The announcement came as Prime Minister Robert Abela officially inaugurated Ryanair’s new €700m Malta office on 4th September. The new headquarters reflects Ryanair’s ongoing investment in Malta and will create up to 70 new high-skilled jobs across finance, safety, HR, pilots, cabin crew, and engineering, bringing the airline’s local workforce to over 500.
Ryanair, the first European airline to carry 200 million passengers annually, is forecasting a record year in Malta for 2025. The carrier plans to operate 68 routes and handle 5 million passengers, with nine B737 aircraft based on the island—an investment worth $900 million. This winter alone, Ryanair will add one additional aircraft and operate 57 routes, including the six newly announced destinations.
David O’Brien, CEO of Malta Air, expressed delight at the opening of the new office and the creation of new jobs. He emphasised Ryanair’s continued commitment to Malta through investment in simulator management, aircraft leasing, and maintenance operations, consolidating Malta’s growing role as a hub of European aviation.
