The Port Regional Council invites the public to Verdala Barracks, Bormla for a musical journey across time on Saturday 2nd May at 8 PM.
This unique evening will seamlessly blend heritage, music and both local and international talent.
Set within this historic site, the open-air event will feature internationally acclaimed Maltese DJ Tenishia performing alongside a 30-piece orchestra conducted by Maestro Etienne Spiteri – both residents and established cultural figures from Cospicua. The result of this collaboration will be a dynamic fusion where contemporary electronic, trance and new wave sounds meet the richness of classical orchestral arrangement – marking a truly first-of-its-kind experience in this hidden corner in Bormla.
Constructed by the British in the 1850s as part of the 17th Century fortifications, this now-residential area was built to be incorporated into the Santa Margherita Lines, with the buildings now commonly referred to as the Verdala Barracks.
Complementing the layered history of these surroundings, the main set has been thoughtfully structured as a journey through electronic eras, memories and emotions.
Running from 8 PM to 10:30 PM, the programme will begin with a guest DJ prior to the headline collaboration.
Tenishia and the Orchestra will weave synth-driven classics to the tune of a modern mix, with audiences to expect iconic tracks such as Enjoy the Silence and Blue Monday, alongside reinterpreted rock anthems like Another Brick in the Wall. Lovers of 90s groove and house, as well as enjoyers of trance will likewise be treated to a selection of their favourite melodies and sounds for the night.
Beyond the music, attendees will also be able to enjoy food and drinks on site, with accessible areas available to accommodate wheelchair users and their families.
This event forms part of the Port Region’s designation as Region of Culture 2026 and is included within the wider “Regional Mosaic” programme – a series of cultural initiatives spanning 11 harbour localities.
Co-hosted by the Bormla Local Council with the support of the Local Government Division. The initiative seeks to transform public spaces into vibrant cultural hubs, while also celebrating local identity, heritage and artistic expression.
By bringing together music and fostering community engagement, the event not only highlights Bormla’s cultural richness and local talents, but also invites residents and visitors to experience the unique setting as a one-time space for artistic and musical expression.
