Baritone Joseph Lia and pianist Natalia Rakhmatulina will appear in concert on November 5 at 7pm at the La Valette Hall, Mediterranean Conference Centre.
Titled Classical Vocal Evening, the recital draws audiences into the expressive heart of European song, spanning sacred contemplation, Romantic intensity and Mediterranean colour. The programme opens with Johannes Brahms’ O Tod, wie bitter bist du and J.S. Bach’s Komm, süßer Tod – two meditations on mortality that reveal contrasting visions of spiritual peace.
The journey continues through Schumann’s Ich grolle nicht from Dichterliebe, Chopin’s Nocturne No. 20 and Schubert’s Moment musical No. 2, each exploring the intimacy and poetic depth of the Romantic imagination. The concert also embraces the emotional lyricism of the Russian masters Glinka and Tchaikovsky, alongside operatic brilliance in Mozart’s Vedrò mentr’io sospiro and Verdi’s O Carlo, ascolta.
The evening concludes with a Maltese touch: Joseph Vella’s Li kieku kont and Charles Camilleri’s Festa, celebrating the national musical voice with warmth and vitality.
