To mark 61 years of Malta’s Independence, the Embassy of Malta in Rome hosted a commemorative concert beneath the majestic dome of the Pantheon, featuring Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja.

On Wednesday, the Embassy of Malta in Rome presented Eki tal-Eternità, an event which brought distinguished guests, diplomats and cultural figures for an evening celebrating Malta’s enduring spirit, its historic ties with Italy and shared Euro-Mediterranean heritage.

The concert was presented by Maltese-Italian actor Davide Tucci and directed by Ray Calleja, as the event took place in one of Rome’s most iconic venues.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador of Malta to Italy, Daniel Azzopardi,  welcomed the attendees to the historic venue, describing the Pantheon as a “temple of eternity” and the concert as “a gift from Malta to our counterparts in the international community, which complements the heightened efforts in international diplomacy towards peace.”

The programme honoured Malta’s journey as a sovereign nation grounded in dialogue, culture, and the ever-growing bilateral relationship with Italy, two countries joined in eternal geographical proximity, today closer than ever as members of the same European project and its core values.

Following the concert, a reception was held at Rome’s Chiostro del Bramante for members of the diplomatic corps and distinguished guests.

The event served as a valuable platform to strengthen both bilateral and multilateral relations through cultural exchange. It also highlighted Malta’s enduring commitment to cultural and commercial diplomacy, and its role as a bridge-builder within the Euro-Mediterranean region.

The Embassy of Malta in Rome extends its sincere thanks to Malta’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, the Italian civil and Ecclesiastical authorities, and all the sponsors for their invaluable support in making this event possible.
