Edwin Vassallo meets Alex Borg, offers his time and support to PN

Edwin Vassallo said on Wednesday he had met PN leader Alex Borg and offered to support the party in any way he could.

The former PN MP, known for his ultra-conservative views, said he was invited by Borg to discuss how he could contribute to the Nationalist Party.

“I’ve seen a change in the administration – we have a different energy and new hope for this party… and this country,” Vassallo said.

Vassallo said he has offered the maximum of his time and support for the party’s “good cause” to ensure “we dont remain complicit in the destruction of all that makes our country”.

This included fighting the issue of overpopulation, he said.

Vassallo, known to have always occupied the right wing of the PN, failed to get elected in 2022 after 25 years in parliament, winning just 371 first-count votes.

He subsequently left the PN and set up Moviment Solidarjetà. In 2024, he contested the MEP elections on the Moviment Solidarjetà ticket and received 717 first-count votes.

During his time in parliament, Vassallo was one of the most vocal opponents of divorce and actively campaigned against the introduction of abortion.

He was the only MP who opposed the introduction of same-sex marriage in 2017 and voted against the domestic violence bill in 2018, raising concerns about references to gender, which he said tried to paint over differences between men and women.

In 2019, Vassallo shared a “warning” about bananas injected with blood containing HIV and AIDS. He wrote “satanists” above the warning.

He eventually apologised for sharing the post.

In September, he endorsed a “rosary rally in reparation for Malta Gay Pride”.

Recently, Vassallo claimed that all of the independent media, “besides Lovin Malta,” is “bought by the government”.
