PKR turns to state and federal heavyweights in early elections shake-up | Malaysia

PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has initiated a sweeping reorganisation of its election command structure ahead of looming national polls, signalling a stronger emphasis on operational discipline, grassroots readiness and centralised campaign coordination.

The party confirmed that Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will jointly oversee PKR’s election preparations after being appointed Joint Election Directors during a Political Bureau meeting held recently.

Party secretary-general Datuk Fuziah Salleh said the latest appointments formed part of a wider strategic recalibration aimed at reinforcing PKR’s organisational readiness before the next general election.

“The KEADILAN Political Bureau has met and agreed on several strategic reorganisations to strengthen the party’s preparedness for the upcoming elections,” she said in a statement issued today.

The restructuring places two experienced political administrators at the centre of PKR’s election machinery, with Amirudin expected to contribute extensive state-level governance experience while Saifuddin brings federal political and organisational influence to the campaign structure.

Fuziah described the changes as necessary to streamline operational workflows and improve coordination between party leadership, state liaison teams and grassroots organisers nationwide.

“In this next phase, party deputy president, Nurul Izzah Anwar will continue to play a strategic role by focusing specifically on strengthening the capabilities of PKR’s election machinery and workflow,” she said.

As part of the overhaul, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary Datuk Azman Abidin and former National Unity Ministry secretary-general Datuk Ruji Ubi were also appointed Directors of PKR’s Main Election Operations Room.

The appointments are intended to tighten supervision of field operations, improve strategic monitoring and enhance communication between campaign centres at federal and state levels.

Fuziah said the reorganisation was not a departure from previous efforts but rather an expansion of structures already developed within the party’s electoral framework.

“This restructuring is also a continuation of the groundwork that has already been established, including strengthening the election structure and coordination between state chapters and party branches,” she said.

PKR is simultaneously accelerating the use of digital campaign tools through its TERAS election management system, which the party says will improve voter engagement, operational efficiency and data integration throughout future campaigns.

The party also revealed that it attracted 5,936 new members during April and May, a development viewed internally as a sign of renewed grassroots momentum as PKR strengthens preparations for the country’s next electoral contest. – May 26, 2026
