MALAYSIA’S unsubsidised retail prices for RON97 petrol, RON95 petrol and diesel will each be reduced by five sen per litre for the period from Aug 6 to Aug 12 under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), the Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced on Wednesday.
Effective Aug 6, RON97 will retail at RM4.35 per litre, down from RM4.40, while unsubsidised RON95 will fall to RM3.77 per litre from RM3.82. The unsubsidised diesel price will also decrease to RM4.57 per litre from RM4.62.
Subsidised fuel prices remain unchanged at RM1.99 per litre for BUDI95 RON95, RM2.10 per litre for BUDI Diesel, RM2.05 per litre under SKPS and RM2.15 per litre under SKDS.
Eligible Malaysians can continue purchasing subsidised RON95 and diesel using their MyKad, subject to programme eligibility requirements and their respective monthly quotas.
The ministry said the reduction followed a decline in Brent crude prices towards the end of the APM pricing cycle, despite the benchmark having traded above US$90 a barrel earlier in the week.
MOF added global oil markets remained highly volatile due to persistent geopolitical uncertainty, including rapidly changing developments surrounding peace efforts in conflict zones. Petroleum prices also remained vulnerable to potential supply disruptions involving key maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, amid escalating regional tensions.
“As long as these conflicts remain unresolved, petroleum prices are expected to continue experiencing volatility in the global market,” the ministry said.
MOF said the Madani Government remained committed to protecting households and businesses from the impact of global market instability through its targeted fuel subsidy programmes.
These include BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95), BUDI MADANI Diesel (BUDI Diesel), the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) and the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS). – August 5, 2026
