Loke steps down as Negeri Sembilan DAP chief after Chennah defeat | Malaysia

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook has resigned as the party’s Negeri Sembilan chairman following the coalition’s losses in the state election, including his defeat in the Chennah seat.

Loke announced his decision after chairing a DAP central executive committee meeting at the party headquarters tonight.

The transport minister had earlier indicated he would consider relinquishing the state party leadership if he failed to retain Chennah, a seat he had held for three terms.

Loke lost the constituency to MCA’s Siow Kong Choon by 688 votes, ending his bid for a fourth consecutive term as a Negeri Sembilan assemblyman.

DAP also suffered another setback in the state polls, losing two seats overall.

Despite the defeat, the party’s central leadership unanimously backed Loke to continue serving as secretary-general, a position he has held since 2018.

Loke first entered the Negeri Sembilan assembly in 2004, representing Lobak until 2013 before moving to Chennah. He continues to serve as the three-term Seremban MP. – August 3, 2026
