COMPLAINTS from members of the public who received no response or feedback after reporting matters involving police have emerged as the largest category of cases handled by the Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC).
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said such complaints contributed to the total 1,635 cases received by the IPCC since it began operations in 2023 until July 24 this year.
Of the total complaints, he said 844 cases, or 76 per cent, had been resolved, while 372 complaints were received so far this year.
He said outstanding cases included complaints from individuals who were dissatisfied with investigation outcomes or had not received any response after submitting reports to the police.
“But it must be understood how the IPCC functions. The IPCC receives all complaints, but there is a division of responsibility.
“If there are elements of corruption, the IPCC will refer the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC),” he told reporters after the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly on Monday.
Earlier, Saifuddin witnessed the handover of IPCC complaint posters as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen integrity and accountability among police personnel through strategic cooperation with various parties.
The posters will be displayed at Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) information corners nationwide to raise public awareness of the IPCC’s role and the complaint channels available.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin said PDRM’s decision to detain 12 of its personnel suspected of involvement in an extortion case involving a foreign national demonstrated that the force would not compromise on misconduct among its own members.
“The fact that the police arrested, detained and took action is a clear message that PDRM will not tolerate misconduct at all, even among its own personnel,” he said.
On Sunday, Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam confirmed the arrest of 12 police officers of various ranks after they were allegedly involved in extorting RM2 million from a Vanuatu national. – July 27, 2026
