Former PM Ismail Sabri expected to be charged tomorrow | Malaysia

FORMER Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to be charged tomorrow at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.

Based on a review of the court system, the charge against the Bera MP is expected to be read out before Judge Suzana Hussin at 9 am, reported Bernama.

The case against Ismail Sabri is believed to be related to his asset declaration.

Previously, Ismail Sabri was summoned several times for his statement to be recorded regarding his asset declarations made to the MACC.

The MACC also seized RM170 million in cash in various foreign currencies and 16 kilograms of pure gold bars estimated to be worth RM7 million, in connection with the investigation into the corruption and money laundering case against him.

The seizure was carried out during a search of the residence and office believed to be a ‘safe house’ as a result of the investigation into four senior Ismail Sabri officers who were arrested in February 2025.

Meanwhile, lawyer Ragunath Kesavan, who represents Ismail Sabri, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed that his client will be charged tomorrow at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court. – August 6, 2026
