THE Federal Government, through the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), has handed over six completed infrastructure projects worth RM83.46 million to the Selangor government to strengthen protection against flooding and coastal erosion.
The projects comprise three coastal erosion control projects, one coastal conservation project and two river flood mitigation projects aimed at protecting lives, property and public well-being.
The handover was officiated by the Director-General of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), Datuk Ir. Mohamad Radzi Abdul Talib, to Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin. The ceremony was witnessed by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and PETRA secretary-general Datuk Seri Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli, representing the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation.
PETRA, in a statement today, said three coastal erosion control projects, costing a combined RM9.26 million, were completed in Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor.
They comprise the Sungai Haji Dorani coastal protection project, which began on June 20, 2024 and was completed on Jan 19, 2026; the Pantai Batu 23 coastal protection project, implemented between June 20, 2025 and May 20, 2026; and the coastal reinforcement works at Kampung Sungai Janggut and Kampung Tok Adam in Kuala Selangor, completed on May 21, 2026 after commencing on June 21, 2024.
PETRA said the projects upgraded and reinforced coastal protection structures while restoring shorelines affected by erosion, reducing the risks posed by coastal erosion and tidal inundation, particularly during periods of exceptionally high tides, and protecting nearby agricultural land and residential areas.
The ministry also completed the RM60.5 million Morib Coastal Conservation Project, which commenced on Sept 1, 2023 and was completed on July 1, 2026.
The project is expected to benefit more than 3,000 residents by significantly reducing the risk of coastal erosion.
During the same ceremony, PETRA handed over two river flood mitigation projects.
The first involved riverbank strengthening works along Sungai Penchala near Avon at Jalan 51A/219 in Petaling Jaya, together with related flood mitigation works costing RM4.3 million. The project is expected to reduce riverbank collapse risks along approximately 10 kilometres of Sungai Penchala while protecting around 5,000 residents within the river basin.
The second project, valued at RM9.4 million, involved upgrading Sungai Kemensah and related works in Mukim Hulu Kelang, Gombak. The project included riverbank reinforcement and improvements to river flow capacity along a 1.6-kilometre stretch, and is expected to stabilise riverbanks, reduce erosion and protect around 200 homes, commercial premises and public infrastructure from flood-related damage.
PETRA also announced that the Federal Government had approved 25 projects for Selangor under the First Rolling Plan of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMKe-13), with a combined allocation of RM3.639 billion.
The projects comprise 16 ongoing initiatives and nine new projects covering flood mitigation, drainage system upgrades, river corridor rehabilitation, coastal erosion control, and mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
PETRA said the Federal Government remained committed to strengthening Selangor’s resilience against floods and coastal erosion through the implementation of high-impact projects that directly benefit the people while supporting sustainable socio-economic development in line with the Malaysia MADANI agenda. – July 21, 2026
