Two arrested for robbery in Thyolo | Malawi 24

Police in Thyolo have apprehended two suspects, Joseph Nanjiri, aged 24, and Blessings Minthenga, aged 23, in connection with a robbery incident that occurred on October 12, 2025.

Reports are indicating that the duo allegedly hired a motorcycle operator, Blessings James aged 24, from Bangwe to Thekelani, Thyolo, under the guise of visiting a traditional healer.

Upon arrival, they crossed into Mozambique and returned to Thekelani, where they assaulted James, leaving him unconscious. The suspects then stole his belongings, including an Itel A60 phone, K70,000 in cash, and a red King Boss motorcycle.

After recovering from his unconsciousness, James visited a nearby home where well-wishers took him to the Thekelani Mission hospital. After that, James reported the incident to the Masambanjati Police Station.

According to Surgeon Amos Banda, Public Relations Officer for Masambanji Police Station, police made investigations, arrested the suspects, and recovered the stolen motorcycle. Nanjiri and Minthenga are currently in custody pending court proceedings.

Nanjiri hails from Mtunduwatha village, Traditional authority Nsabwe in Thyolo while Mithenga hails from Matewere village, Traditional authority Mabuka in Mulanje.
