Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) says the new management information system (MIS) will help to improve efficiency, transparency and service delivery in certification, inspection and testing processes.
Briefing the media briefing in Blantyre on Friday, MBS director general Symon Mandala described MIS as a key step in the bureau’s digital transformation.
He said the bureau has for years relied on paper-based records and fragmented digital tools, which have often led to delays in processing applications and compiling data for decision-making.
Mandala said the new system, developed in partnership with Idias Corporation Limited, is an integrated platform connecting different operations at the bureau.
“Through the platform, clients will be able to submit applications for certification, inspection or testing online and receive text messages and e-mail notifications at each stage of the process,” he said.
Mandala said the system will automatically route applications to relevant technical officers, laboratories or inspectors, enabling management to quickly identify bottlenecks and reallocate resources.
“For consumers, faster processing means goods will be inspected and cleared quickly,” he said.
Ideas Corporation Limited managing director Edwin Saidi said the platform is designed to streamline operations and improve how services are delivered to clients.
“The system brings MBS processes into one digital platform, making it easier to manage applications, improve turnaround times and support businesses by lowering the cost of accessing services,” he said.
The project is financially supported by the Southern Africa Trade and Connectivity Project, a World Bank-funded initiative.
