FDH Bank Premiership side Ekhaya FC have appointed assistant coaches Moses Chavula and Fundi Akidu in charge of the club in the absence of head coach Enos Chatama.
Interim coach: Chavula | Nation
The club’s position comes amid reports that technical director Leonard Odipo had replaced Chatama as head coach.
But Ekhaya FC general secretary Thando Mhango in an interview yesterday dismissed the reports.
He said: “It’s not true that Odipo is now our head coach. If you look at those pictures circulating on social media, you will see that they are AI-generated. The assistant coaches Moses [Chavula] and Fundi [Akidu] are in charge of the team.”
Mhango also cleared the air surrounding Chatama’s period of absence.
“He is not fired. He will be on leave for not more than three weeks,” he said.
Chatama, in an interview last week, confirmed that he had taken a breather.
“I just want to rest for a while. It could be a month or more. But I will be back,” he said.
His absence, barely a week after the new season, sparked rumours of a rift with the club’s management following the team’s poor start to the 2026 season.
The Cowboys lost 2-1 to Blue Eagles in their opening match before being held to a 1-1 draw by newcomers Red Lions at home in week two.
Chavula and Akidu will lead the team in tomorrow’s away fixture against Civil Service United at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
