Want to spoil a loved one or the family with a memorable dining experience?
These places are perfect for a lunch or dinner to remember. Some are better in the warmer months, but in all cases, it’s wise to book ahead for that special date.
On the waterfront
Navi-tour has special themed events where you can catch a show and dine on board one of their boats that cruise the Moselle. They regularly host Fado nights, with live music from a Portuguese band, and a three course dinner. You can also celebrate the Feast of Saint John on 20 June with a cruise, dinner, and fireworks, or a magic show with Jay Witlox.

Also in Remich, Tiny Bar is a summer destination. From May onwards you can sit on deckchairs amongst the vineyards sipping local wines, but in winter, they have a beautiful snug setting inside, looking out onto the Moselle river. Enjoy mellow music, both live or from DJs, with tarte flambée and cheese platters to accompany your apéritif.
Cosy up in a cable car, igloo or chalet
Mamer Plage has a riverside setting and some unusual cable car gondolas decked out with furs to add to the cosy atmosphere. You can tuck into a variety of raclettes and fondues and enjoy an intimate evening meal (although not too intimate or the windows will steam up). Larger gondolas accommodating six or 10 people also make it ideal for a family gathering or small celebration with close friends.
A reader recommends the Igloo, at the Melia at Cloche d’Or. Pet friendly too, you can snuggle up inside an igloo on the terrace and dine on fondue in the winter months.
Le Moulin de Altwies has a snug Finnish chalet, Le Kota de Marie, which can be reserved for six to nine people. It’s intimate and private, and you can arrange it with relaxed faux fur covered seats or a circular table, and the restaurant offers all sorts of seasonal dishes for your special meal.

Fun and games with a covered roof top
Mama Shelter’s rooftop bar offers brilliant views but is sheltered enough to be a year-round dining experience. A retractable roof means that if the sun does peak out, you can catch some rays whilst sitting on double deckchairs. If you get bored, there’s table football and pétanque. Try out some rooftop cocktails, including Just like Heaven, with gin, Campari, red vermouth and watermelon, or a lobster roll with home-made rosemary fries. Check their website as the rooftop bar may not be open yet.
Feast in a castle
Dine like a king or queen at Chateau de Schengen, Chateau Bourglinster, or Chateau d’Urspelt. You can find out what gourmet delights await you in our article below.

Last year the Ville de Luxembourg also sponsored a number of dinner dates in the dark with local restaurants from April through to October. You can check this web page to see if they will do it again. Read about the experience in the article below.

A taste of Africa
Up north in Heiderscheid, Chez Jimmy is an Ethiopian restaurant where you share the food on one plate and eat with breads, using your hands. You can choose from meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes.
