Train operator CFL to close travel and tourism subsidiary

Luxembourg’s national railway operator CFL will close its travel and tourism business at the end of March, the company said on Monday.

CFL Evasion offers package holidays outside of the Grand Duchy, including train holidays in a wide range of countries including Scotland, Spain, Japan and Vietnam.

The railway operator “has decided to discontinue the activities of its travel and tourism subsidiary”, CFL said in a press release, with the service set to close on 31 March.

“The tourism sector is currently undergoing profound transformations and structural changes requiring significant investments in technology, training, and infrastructure”, the company said. “With less than 3% of train journeys sold, CFL Evasion has drifted away from CFL’s core business.”

“In light of these findings, the CFL Group has chosen to refocus its investments and resources on developing its core business,” the press release added.

CFL said that trips will still take place for customers who have already booked a holiday with CFL Evasion, and all trips already reserved will be taken over by Travel Group Luxembourg.

Five employees are affected by the closure of the travel subsidiary, but new positions within the CFL Group will be offered to them, the company added.
