27-year-old only suspect in fatal Luxembourg stabbing

A 27-year-old is the only suspect in the fatal stabbing of a woman in the Limpertsberg district of Luxembourg City, the public prosecutor’s office has said.

The suspect was due in court on Wednesday after a 35-year-old woman was killed and another seriously injured following a knife attack on Tuesday

The perpetrator attacked two women with a knife, police said on Tuesday afternoon. French newspaper Républicain Lorrain reported on Tuesday evening that the victim was a woman from the northern part of the French department of Moselle.

The second woman, a 36-year-old Luxembourg national, according to the public prosecutor’s office, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A 27-year-old man, who is not a resident of Luxembourg, is suspected of the crime. He was arrested in the area between Bridel and Strassen after an attempted escape.

The public prosecutor’s office stressed that there is no family relationship between the suspect and the two women.

The Luxemburger Wort reported that the crime scene is a residential building on Avenue de la Faïencerie.

RTL reported on Wednesday that the deceased was an employee of a real estate agency who had been at the building for a viewing, where two apartments are advertised for rent. The seriously injured woman is believed to be a neighbour from the same building.

A car driven by the alleged perpetrator to flee the scene collided with a black BMW that was not linked to the incident on a nearby street, police said. Police forensics teams could be seen taking samples from the BMW.

Investigators towed away a dark Renault Clio with French licence plates from the driveway at the crime scene in Limpertsberg on Tuesday evening.

Earlier on Tuesday, police had reported that a large-scale operation was underway in the Biergerkräiz and Bridel areas, around 6km from Luxembourg City. They asked the public not to pick up anyone hitchhiking and to report anyone seen acting suspiciously immediately to police.
