University of Benghazi Participates in International Seminar on Education for Persons with Disabilities in Crises

Benghazi – The University of Benghazi, represented by the Social Service Office of the General Registrar, participated in an international scientific symposium organized by Gaza University via videoconference. The symposium, titled “Persons with Disabilities in Gaza Under the Weight of War: Education Between Resilience, Mental Health, Digital Transformation, and the Responsibility of the International Community,” brought together academics, researchers, and specialists from several Arab universities.

Zainab Mahmoud Adhiab, director of the Social Service Office and coordinator for persons with disabilities at the University of Benghazi, emphasized that the university’s participation reflects its academic and community responsibility toward people with disabilities. She underscored the importance of supporting scientific efforts that promote the right to education, especially during times of crisis and conflict.

During her presentation, Adhiab highlighted the need to provide social and psychological support for persons with disabilities. She called for the creation of inclusive and safe learning environments to ensure the continuity of education. Adhiab also pointed to the pivotal role that academic institutions play in advancing the principles of inclusive and equitable education.

She discussed the significance of digital transformation as an effective tool to ensure access to education and to overcome challenges faced by people with disabilities. Adhiab urged greater cooperation between universities and research institutions to share expertise and develop innovative solutions to promote inclusion.

The symposium addressed the specific challenges facing persons with disabilities in conflict zones. Participants explored ways to strengthen psychological and social care, the impact of digital technologies on education, and the international community’s responsibility to protect the rights of persons with disabilities under international treaties and agreements.

The University of Benghazi stated that its involvement in such international scientific events demonstrates its commitment to strengthening its academic presence and expanding cooperation with Arab and international universities. The university aims to enhance services for persons with disabilities and support inclusive education.
