Minister of Agriculture Stresses Importance of Expanding Use of Clean Energy in the Country’s Agricultural Sector

Tripoli – Agriculture and Livestock Minister Abdel Latif Al-Taher underscored the importance of expanding the use of clean energy in the agricultural sector. He said this would support agricultural production, enhance resource efficiency, and help achieve sustainability.

Al-Taher made these remarks while chairing a meeting focused on introducing solar energy systems to agricultural projects. The meeting discussed providing farmers with access to these systems through financing options that comply with Islamic Sharia law.

Participants addressed ways to help farmers and agricultural project owners acquire solar energy systems through Islamic Murabaha financing. This aims to lower both operating and production costs, reduce reliance on traditional energy sources, and support the long-term viability of agriculture.

The meeting was attended by the Renewable Energy Holding Company, representatives from the Turkish company Felix and Awj Al-Oula Renewable Energy, commercial banks operating in Libya, directors from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, representatives of national companies, and agricultural project owners.

Those present agreed to continue coordination and to draft a comprehensive technical, financial, and regulatory framework for launching the program in the coming period. The goal is to ensure sustainable energy solutions for farmers and bolster agricultural development across the country.

This meeting forms part of efforts to lay the groundwork for joint agreements between the Ministry, banking institutions, and specialized companies. The aim is to create clear implementation mechanisms that would allow farmers to benefit from solar energy systems with accessible procedures and Sharia-compliant financing solutions.
