Mass drug testing for teachers is an “insult” and undermines the prestige of the profession

Former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hassan Al-Saghir, commented on accusations by the Dbeibah government’s Minister of Education, Ali Al-Abed, regarding allegations of drug use by some teachers, criticizing the proposal for mass and random testing. Al-Saghir’s comment was made in a post on his Facebook page.

Criticism of Drug Testing
Al-Saghir said that the notion of subjecting male and female teachers to mass or random drug tests is “very insulting,” stressing that he does not believe an official has ever dared to treat teachers in this way before.

Responsibility of the Educational System
He pointed out that if cases of drug use are indeed found, it is considered a failure on the part of the Ministry, inspectorates, school principals, and inspectors, as this system is supposed to monitor the performance, competence, and behavior of teachers. He reiterated that the idea of mass testing is “a shameful and insulting matter.”
