Libyan Cabinet Protection Force Issues Warning on Planned Protests

With the background of social media calls for demonstrations today, the Cabinet Protection and Security Force urged citizens today to exercise awareness and responsibility, to verify the identity and objectives of those calling for demonstrations, and to avoid being drawn into suspicious activities—potentially funded or directed by external parties—that could jeopardize the safety of citizens and the security of public and private property.

The demonstrations are ostensibly spontaneous and against deteriorating standards of living, increased corruption and lack of youth job opportunity.

The Security Force said makes it call while fully appreciating the extent of the suffering experienced by citizens due to difficult living conditions and the repercussions of political division. It acknowledges their right to peacefully express their legitimate demands and aspirations.

The Force further emphasizes that the safety of citizens, the protection of state institutions, and the safeguarding of public and private property are a shared national responsibility. Maintaining stability requires prioritizing the national interest and refraining from any actions that could incite chaos or threaten social peace.

The Force reaffirms its commitment to fulfilling its duty to protect and secure state institutions, while respecting the right of citizens to peaceful expression, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
