General Saddam Haftar praises lawmakers’ agreement to develop the council’s working mechanisms and values the role of Saleh and Nuwairi

General Saddam Haftar, deputy commander of the armed forces, said Libya’s path to stability and unity begins with building strong national institutions capable of renewal and fulfilling their responsibilities. He emphasized that the strength and regular functioning of institutions are the foundation for protecting the country’s unity, sovereignty and the creation of a lasting state.

In a post on X, Haftar said his vision for state-building and the unification of national institutions leads him to view positively the House of Representatives’ recent agreement to reform its procedures. These reforms include adopting a parliamentary term system and electing a new leadership bureau at the start of each session. Haftar said such measures will strengthen the legislative authority and renew its ability to fulfill its national responsibilities. He also noted that these steps will support stability and move the country forward.

Haftar reaffirmed the armed forces’ support for the House of Representatives and the newly elected leadership, which includes Speaker Saleheen Abd al-Nabi and his deputies Misbah Douma and Tarek al-Ashtar. He wished them success in their duties and urged them to build on the trust placed in them by a majority of members. He said this will enhance the parliament’s national role, help unify state institutions, and preserve Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and the interests of its people.

Haftar expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to former House Speaker Aguila Saleh and his deputy Fawzi Al-Nuwairi for their years of service to the nation. He acknowledged their significant contribution in supporting the Libyan armed forces in the fight against terrorism, and in helping to build, develop and unify the military, which has strengthened its ability to defend Libya’s sovereignty, security and stability.

Haftar stressed that the next stage requires everyone to put the interests of the state and its institutions above all else. He called for overcoming divisions and consolidating institutional leadership, which will pave the way for completing the unification of political, executive and security institutions and make them more effective nationally.

Finally, Haftar called on the Libyan people to remain united and to support all sincere national efforts for progress. He said this was the path toward renewed stability, development, and reconstruction, with strong, integrated national institutions—first and foremost a unified national army—serving to protect Libya’s sovereignty and stability in a country where the national interest and citizens’ dignity are safeguarded.
