A high-level delegation from the Government of National Unity is scheduled to visit Washington in early September, in a significant step towards building a strategic economic and investment partnership with the United States. The delegation, led by the Minister of Oil and Gas, includes key figures from Libya’s investment, renewable energy, and economic development sectors. The primary goal of the ten-day visit is to open new avenues for Libyan-American cooperation.
This initiative builds upon a series of recent high-level meetings, including discussions between Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and senior US officials. A recent visit by a US presidential advisor featured the proposal of a $70 billion strategic partnership in the energy and minerals sectors, and the signing of an agreement between Libya’s Mellitah Oil and Gas company and the American firm Hill International. Furthermore, other agreements are under discussion with major US companies such as ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips, underscoring the growing momentum to solidify a robust economic alliance.
