Capitol Hill, April 14, 2026: Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah has requested additional time to consult with legal counsel ahead of an investigative hearing by the House Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration. The committee, however, denied his request for five days and instead granted him two days to appear.
The decision was made on Monday shortly after proceedings began, when Rep. Kolubah formally asked for more time to secure legal representation. He argued that the seriousness of the allegations against him required adequate preparation and legal advice.
In his written communication to the committee, Rep. Kolubah cited the recent National Fast and Prayer holiday and other non‑working days as obstacles to retaining counsel in time for the scheduled hearing.
“Given the Fast and Prayer holiday and the non‑working days, it is impossible to hire the services of legal representation in time for the scheduled hearing,” Kolubah wrote. “Additionally, the matter raises significant constitutional questions, and I require time to consult legal practitioners experienced in constitutional law to ensure my rights are properly protected.”
The investigation stems from controversial comments made by Rep. Kolubah regarding Liberia’s border with Guinea, particularly in disputed areas. He allegedly suggested that portions of Liberian territory belong to Guinea and implied that Guinean authorities should take control of those areas—remarks lawmakers say contradict Liberia’s official position on its sovereignty.
His statements sparked outrage within the Legislature and among the public, prompting warnings from security officials that such claims could heighten tensions in sensitive border communities and threaten national stability.
The probe was initiated following a complaint filed by Montserrado County District #3 Representative Sumo K. Mulbah, who accused Kolubah of misconduct, breach of duty, and violating his oath of office. Mulbah argued that publicly conceding Liberian territory to a neighboring country was reckless and damaging to the nation’s territorial integrity.
The complaint has reportedly gained the backing of more than 36 lawmakers who support disciplinary action against Kolubah.
With only two days granted, Rep. Kolubah is expected to return before the committee on Wednesday when the hearing resumes.
