HOR STRENGTHENS ACCOUNTABILITY WITH INTERNAL AUDIT TRAINING INITIATIVE

MONROVIA – The House of Representatives of Liberia has taken a significant step toward improving accountability and institutional efficiency with the successful completion of a two-day intensive training for its newly established Internal Audit Department.

The refresher training, which began on Wednesday and concluded on Thursday, brought together audit staff for a hands-on learning experience aimed at strengthening technical capacity, enhancing practical knowledge, and boosting overall team performance.

According to organizers, the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the House to reinforce professionalism and efficiency in internal audit operations, particularly at a time when transparency and sound financial management remain critical to public trust.

The training sessions focused on refreshing core competencies while introducing updated practices in the field of internal auditing. Participants were also exposed to practical exercises tailored to their daily responsibilities within the department.

Key areas covered during the training included ethical standards in auditing, fraud investigation techniques, data integrity, and the fundamental components of an effective internal audit system. These topics were designed to equip staff with the tools needed to detect irregularities and ensure compliance with established procedures.

Speaking at the close of the training, Togba Emmanuel emphasized the importance of continuous professional development in promoting accountability within the legislature.

He noted that the interactive nature of the sessions, including group discussions and guided exercises, helped deepen participants’ understanding of audit processes while encouraging teamwork and collaboration.

Director Emmanuel further urged staff members to apply the knowledge gained during the training to their daily functions, stressing that improved performance within the Internal Audit Department is essential to strengthening oversight within the House.

He added that building a competent audit team is key to ensuring that financial operations within the legislature are conducted in line with best practices and established regulations.

The initiative highlights the House of Representatives’ commitment to institutional capacity building, as well as its broader goal of promoting transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
