CDCians Seek New Alternative For 2029

Monrovia-December 5, 2025: A Strout sporter of the former ruling Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Wantoe Teah Wantoe, has sharply reacted to calls by some members of the party calling for the removal of former President Geoge M. Weah as political of the party ahead f the 2029 elections.

Weah contested the 2017 presidential and legislative elections and won former Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai becoming Liberia’s first football president of Liberia. Weah’s six years of leadership was marred by missed reactions as some Liberians accused him of bad governance and corruption as many of his officials were sanctioned by the United States State Department.

Mr. Weah also contested the 2023 Presidential Election but lost to then Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai after serving for only six years.

In recent times, some of his supporters have been calling for his removal for being soft, peaceful and not living p to the political reality. They claimed that the opposition CDC needs strong a very strong and radical leader to stair the affairs of the party in the face of the Unity Party’s aggressive propaganda and style of leadership.

But in his reaction, Mr. Wantoe noted, “You do not throw away the foundation of a house because the roof needs fixing,” referring to those who opting for the replacement of the long-time Standard-bearer of the CDC.‎

“‎I have heard the argument being circulated that former President Weah is “too soft” or “too peaceful” to lead. I do not intend to dignify that reasoning because it carries no logic, no strategic depth, and certainly no understanding of the political reality that faces both the CDC and the country,” he wrote on his social media page.

‎He reminded the callers that peace is not weakness adding, “Calm is not confusion. Restraint is not retreat. Liberia has already tasted what happens when leaders mistake noise for power and anger for strategy. The nation cannot afford that old script again. Our democracy stands today because we have learned to value stability over spectacle.”

Mr. Wantoe Teah Wantoe

‎Wanto said the truth remains clear saying, “Weah is exactly what the CDC needs at this moment. He is the party’s broadest national appeal, its most recognizable political brand, and its strongest connection to ordinary people across the country. The CDC’s path to power is built on strengthening this capital, not burning it. You do not throw away the foundation of a house because the roof needs fixing. You fix the roof and protect the foundation.”

‎Mr. Wantoe noted that Weah represents the unifying temperament and peaceful political culture that the country respects. That is not a liability. It is an asset. It is the very thing that allows the CDC to stand as a national institution rather than a political choir singing only to its own members.

‎he added, “‎And because the CDC is an institution, not an emotion, we must learn to love it in the way institutions are loved. With responsibility, with patience, with clarity, and with the commitment to build rather than tear down. Loving an institution means strengthening it, reforming it, and guarding what gives it national credibility. That includes protecting its most valuable political figure,” he added.

‎he said, “If there is work to be done, it is the work of structure, policy, communication, and organization. It is the work of building a modern institution worthy of the Liberian people. Turning frustration into character attacks does not advance that mission. It only distracts from it.

“Liberia needs steady hands. The CDC needs disciplined strengthening. And the party must love itself enough to protect the leadership and the values that keep it standing,” Wantoe concluded.
