Software developer creates food delivery app – The Reporter Lesotho

A local software developer, Langa Hoohlo, has created a food delivery app called Localbites.

LocalBites was founded in 2025 with a simple mission: to bring the diverse and authentic flavours of local restaurants directly to people’s homes.

Hoohlo said he developed the app to bridge the gap between customers and their favourite restaurants, making it easier for people to order food from the comfort of their own homes. With Localbites, users can browse menus, place orders, and track deliveries in real-time, enjoying a seamless food delivery.

Hoohlo noted that what began as a small startup has now grown into a platform that connects thousands of food lovers with their eateries while helping independent restaurants thrive in an increasingly competitive market.

He indicated at LocalBites, they believe that great food brings people together. Their mission is to make local, authentic cuisine accessible to everyone while supporting the growth of neighbourhood restaurants.

“We are committed to creating a platform that celebrates culinary diversity, promotes sustainable business practices, and provides exceptional experiences for our customers, restaurant partners, and delivery riders,” Hoohlo said.

They prioritise the needs of local communities, supporting small businesses and creating meaningful connections through food.

Additionally, Hoohlo indicated, they believe in preserving the authentic flavours and traditions of local cuisine, never compromising on quality or cultural integrity.

Localbites also works to continuously improve their technology to make great food more accessible to everyone, no matter where they live.

However, challenges still persist, particularly with timely delivery in Lesotho’s mountainous terrain, where some areas are difficult to access.

Limited digital literacy among users hinders their ability to navigate the app, highlighting the need for education and support in utilising new technology.

Hoohlo expressed his vision for Localbites to be recognised as more than just a food delivery platform, but also as a marketing agency that promotes local restaurants and empowers small kitchens to scale up their businesses.

“By showcasing these eateries to a wider audience, we aim to foster growth and development in the local food industry,” he added.
