The Rotary Club of Mantsopa-Maseru, in collaboration with Rotaract Clubs across Lesotho and the Ministry of Environment & Forestry Lesotho, recently completed a highly successful Brush Control Project at Thaba-Bosiu, Metolong. The initiative brought together volunteers dedicated to restoring the land and protecting the environment for future generations. From early morning, participants worked with focus and determination, clearing overgrown brush and improving the ecosystem’s health. The project emphasized teamwork, responsibility, and the collective effort required to maintain Lesotho’s natural heritage. By engaging community members directly, the initiative not only addressed environmental concerns but also strengthened local awareness about sustainable land management and conservation practices.
The event was further elevated by the presence of Prince Lerotholi Mohato Bereng Seeiso, whose participation highlighted the importance of leadership in environmental stewardship. His involvement inspired attendees and reinforced the message that preserving the environment requires collective action from all sectors of society. Volunteers and organizers collaborated to remove debris, manage brush growth, and ensure the area was left in a cleaner, safer, and healthier condition. The project served as an educational opportunity, showing young people and community members the value of practical environmental care. Through these actions, participants were able to experience firsthand the impact of service-oriented projects on both the environment and the community.
Special recognition was given to the project’s sponsors, including Prestige Wealth, Coca-Cola Beverages Lesotho, Lesotho Flour Mills, Lekhooa Transport, and Lesotho National Broadcasting Services (LNBS), whose support ensured the initiative was well-resourced and impactful. Their contributions enabled the organizers to provide tools, materials, and refreshments for volunteers, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the campaign. The dedication of Rotarians, Rotaractors, partners, and community members was equally crucial, reflecting the Rotary principle of Service Above Self. The combined efforts of volunteers and sponsors demonstrate how partnership and commitment can deliver tangible environmental improvements. In conclusion, the Brush Control Project at Thaba-Bosiu stands as a model for community-led environmental initiatives, fostering unity, sustainability, and a legacy of care for Lesotho’s natural landscape.
