The cabinet has dissolved the Government Assets Search Recovery Task Team, declaring it lacks the legal foundation to operate Public Eye has reported. The decision, announced on October 23, represents a major reversal for Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane’s administration. Upon his election in 2022, Matekane pledged a comprehensive audit and recovery of state properties looted since Lesotho’s independence in 1966.
Lesotho Tribune is aware that the same committee was scheduled to appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on November 3, 2025, to present two crucial reports, one relating to the Matekane Group Companies (MGC) case and another concerning the Basotho National Party (BNP) matter.
Important questions which parliament should get answers on is who authorised the formation of this unit and how was it funded.
