Cadre accountants held a farewell party for Accountant General ‘Malehlohonolo Mahase in Maseru yesterday as she pulls down the curtain on an illustration career spanning many years.

Mahase’s colleagues from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning showered her with praises,describing her as a dedicated professional and leader.

Acting Accountant General, Hlompho Matsoso, said Mahase had worked hard to put accountants from Lesotho on the map.

Matsoso said Mahase held everything together, urging other accountants to take over from her and carry on with the baton. 

“She leaves us with the knowledge and skills to be calm when things get tough,” Matsoso noted.

Mahase was appointed Accountant General in 2029. She also held various roles at the National Health Trading Centre, Public Officers Fund Contribution, Queen Mamohato Memorial Hospital, and National Drug Services Organisation. 

Mahase further represented Lesotho on the Eastern and Southern Association of Accountants General where she served on the board. She was also the founding chairperson of the African Association of Accountants General until this month. 

She is a Mandela Washington Fellow from Georgia State University in the United States of America.
