Heavy snowfall forces temporary closure of Qacha’s Nek border post – The Reporter Lesotho

Operations at the Qacha’s Nek Port of Entry between Lesotho and South Africa have been temporarily suspended following heavy snowfall that has created unsafe travelling conditions in the area.

The South African Border Management Authority (BMA) said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to protect travellers, border officials and other stakeholders operating at the port of entry.

BMA Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato said the temporary suspension was reached in consultation with the Lesotho authorities as heavy snow continued to affect the area around the border post.

Travellers and commercial operators have been advised to postpone their journeys where possible or use the Telle Bridge Port of Entry, located about 190 kilometres away.

The BMA said it would continue monitoring weather conditions and provide further updates as the situation improves, while urging the public to exercise caution and follow official advisories.
