YAN’AN, China, Sept. 10 — The People’s Republic of China remains committed to strengthening cordial relations and cooperation with media organisations around the world to support the development of countries, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Ms. Sun Haiyan, has said.
Ms. Sun said this during the ongoing World Media Cooperation Training in Yan’an, Shaanxi Province, held under the theme “Cultural Inheritance and Modernisation” on Thursday.
In her official welcoming address, Ms Sun said China recognised the important role of the media in sharing information and promoting development, adding that the country remained committed to expanding cooperation with other countries.
“We know about your countries. Though we seem to be far from each other, it is important that we continue to engage in media exchange programmes for information sharing,” she said.
She said China invited media practitioners to cities such as Yan’an to enable them to gain a better understanding of the Chinese Revolution and its significance in modern Chinese history.
Ms. Sun also highlighted the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI), saying the media needed to strengthen its efforts to counter fake news circulating on social media platforms.
She said accurate and reliable information was important in ensuring that society remained well informed.
Speaking on behalf of the participating media organisations, Head of Delegation Mr. Michel Thomas Kerr of Trinidad and Tobago said China’s open-up policy in cultural exchange and development had created opportunities for the media to strengthen relations.
He said such exchanges were important in advancing the theme of the training and promoting the development of countries.
Mr. Kerr further called on the media to focus more on developing countries by producing developmental and informative news, saying this could contribute to economic growth and promote humanity.
Yan’an has a permanent resident population of more than two million people and is widely recognised for its significant role in the history of the Chinese Revolution.
