The award-winning civic participation platform “ManaBalss.lv” has announced a new visual identity and a completely new platform design, which it says will offer users a more modern and organized experience.
The changes come as ManaBalss approaches 15 years of operation in which it has already become an integral part of Latvian democracy and agenda-setting.
The new platform’s homepage features the slogan “My voice – my freedom” and graphically, the identity is centered around the outline of a megaphone, symbolizing a call to action, with the shape also looking like a speech bubble.

The author of the new visual identity is Sofija Lamaha, while the author of the new web design of the platform is Olga Ivanova – both designers are from Ukraine and closely collaborate with ManaBalss on other projects as well, but the entire ManaBalss team worked on the concept and implementation of the new identity.
In almost 15 years, citizen initiatives created on the ManaBalss platform have led to 85 supported decisions in the Saeima and 27 decisions in municipalities.

Among the most significant examples of initiatives is the 2019 initiative on the introduction of open voting in the presidential elections (previously Saeima deputies voted anonymously and could not easily be held accountable), which is the only known citizen-initiated constitutional change in the global context using digital democracy tools.
Likewise, the introduction of the deposit system for beverage packaging, the imposition of real prison sentences for animal torturers, increased funding for cancer treatment, the provision of free personal hygiene products in educational institutions, and and many other initiatives have their origins in ManaBalss initiatives.
