European Public Prosecutor’s Office to investigate RKIK and Datasel contracts

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) will investigate transactions between the Estonian Center for Defense Investments (RKIK) and Datasel after Estonian prosecutors identified grounds to suspect a possible criminal offence, ERR reports.

Estonia’s Prosecutor General’s Office will therefore not add these transactions to its ongoing criminal proceedings concerning the Ministry of Defense’s area of government.

Prosecutor General Astrid Asi said information published by the National Audit Office and the media provided sufficient grounds to investigate whether a crime may have been committed.

As the suspected violations involve European Union funds, Estonian prosecutors and EPPO concluded that the case falls under the European body’s jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, the Prosecutor General’s Office will continue the separate criminal proceedings launched in 2025 into circumstances detailed in the National Audit Office’s report.
