Estonian defense contractor Milrem Robotics’ fire could have been arson

A building used by Milrem Robotics on Betooni tänav in Tallinn caught fire overnight into Saturday, and preliminary information suggests the blaze may have been deliberately started.

A local resident had reported suspicious activity near the building to the Emergency Response Center, while the extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Authorities have opened a criminal investigation, identified suspects and asked the court to order their detention.

Prosecutors are examining possible motives, including whether the incident could have been an attempted act of sabotage.

The Estonian Internal Security Service said attacks against critical infrastructure are treated seriously and called for stronger physical and digital security measures, while noting that Estonia’s overall threat level has not changed in recent years.
