An official U.S. delegation led by U.S. Special Envoy to South and Central Asia Sergio Gor will attend a ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan’s independence, Kyrgyzstan’s Ambassador to the United States Edil Baisalov said.
The delegation will also include Montana Senator Steve Daines, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Bethany Poulos Morrison, Special Representative for Global Partnerships Paolo Zampolli and others.
«We view the participation of a U.S. delegation at such a high level in our country’s main national holiday as a sign of strengthening Kyrgyzstan — USA relations and growing mutual interest. The arrival of a high-level delegation to take part in the Independence Day celebrations testifies to a shared commitment to elevating the Kyrgyz-American partnership to a new level,» the ambassador said.
Edil Baisalov noted that relations between the two countries gained new momentum following a meeting between Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House in November last year. He also emphasized that Bishkek and Washington are currently expanding political dialogue and practical cooperation, including in trade and economic relations, investment, new technologies, education and other areas of mutual interest.
A cooperation agreement between Kyrgyzstan and the United States was signed in Washington on May 19, 1993. The Kyrgyz government unilaterally terminated the strategic agreement on July 21, 2015. U.S. diplomats have said that a new bilateral cooperation agreement with the Kyrgyz authorities has already been prepared and that they look forward to its signing as soon as possible.
