The official opening ceremony of the VI World Nomad Games began at Bishkek Arena.
First, the national flag of Kyrgyzstan was raised, followed by the national anthem.
The parade of athletes from participating countries then began. More than 29,000 spectators have gathered at the stadium.
The Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Russia Vladimir Putin, Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev are attending the ceremony.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Togolese Prime Minister Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, UN Secretary-General António Guterres and US Special Envoy to South and Central Asia Sergio Gor are also present.
Chinese President Xi Jinping was unable to attend the ceremony due to a natural disaster in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.
Around 3,000 athletes from 112 countries will take part in the VI World Nomad Games, the highest number of participants in the Games’ history.
The main sports program of the World Nomad Games will take place from September 1 to 6 in Issyk-Kul region. The opening ceremony is being held on August 31 at Bishkek Arena in Bishkek.
