Aitmatov Aalamy cultural and memorial complex has been opened in the village of Sheker, Aitmatov district, Talas region. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov attended the opening ceremony in the native village of renowned Kyrgyz writer Chinghiz Aitmatov.
According to the president, construction of the complex began several years ago but was later suspended. The project was completed this year.
Japarov said the complex should become a center for education, science, culture and spiritual development. He called for regular scientific and cultural events to be held there to highlight the significance of the writer’s legacy for younger generations.
«Our goal is not simply to preserve Aitmatov’s legacy in a beautifully built facility, but to deeply root it in the minds of the next generation,» the president said.
He noted that the issues of conscience, historical memory, the native language and responsibility to one’s homeland that the writer explored through his characters remain relevant today.
«Scientific technologies expand human capabilities, but it is a person’s spiritual world that determines who they are,» Japarov said.
The president also spoke about preparations for the 100th anniversary of Chinghiz Aitmatov’s birth. According to him, a relevant decree has already been adopted, the Cabinet has approved an action plan, and an organizing committee has begun work.
Sadyr Japarov expressed hope that the development of creative industries and greater focus on the country’s literary and cultural heritage would help revive a «Kyrgyz Renaissance» and foster a new generation of prominent figures in the arts.
