The Board of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan has approved a concept and roadmap for the development of supervisory technologies (SupTech) for 2026–2031. The program includes a range of initiatives to automate regulatory processes and introduce digital tools based on artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data processing algorithms, the National Bank reported.
The program will bring the regulator’s supervisory practices in line with unified digital standards used in 140 countries. The main focus will be on the banking sector, where digitalization is expected to simplify electronic licensing procedures and supervisory mechanisms for combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
The five-year SupTech program focuses on restructuring the technological infrastructure of financial supervision. Its main areas include:
- creating a unified technological framework for the automatic integration of supervised entities with the National Bank’s infrastructure;
- launching a corporate data management system and automating electronic licensing;
- strengthening the sector’s cyber resilience and developing employees’ digital skills.
The development of SupTech technologies is planned for 2026–2031. Drawing on the experience of 140 countries reflects a broader shift from traditional document-based supervision to continuous, real-time analytical oversight.
Unified digital standards are expected to create conditions for more transparent interaction between banks and the National Bank. However, at the initial stage, the introduction of new integration standards could lead to a temporary increase in IT infrastructure and cybersecurity costs for supervised entities.
