It is planned to eliminate the shortage of textbooks in schools of Kyrgyzstan only by 2030. Tologon Amatov, director of Okuu Kitebi publishing house, told journalists on Friday.
According to him, the renewal of school textbook stocks is being carried out in stages as part of the transition to 12-year education.
«We have never seen such a scale before. For example, 3.74 million textbooks were supplied to schools across the country between 2017 and 2024. At the same time, schools received 4,735 million teaching and learning packages in 2025 alone, including a textbook, workbook and teacher’s guide. In 2026, about 3.2 million packages have already been published, with another 1.4 million planned. Thus, over the two years we will produce more than 9.3 million teaching and learning packages in total,» Amatov said.
He added that new domestic textbooks on the history and geography of Kyrgyzstan, computer science, «Man and Society» subject, music, and the Kyrgyz language as a first and second language are also being developed.
«The authors have already been selected. Once the manuscript is completed, work begins on the design and layout. The textbooks must then undergo four types of expert review. After that, they receive approval from the Ministry of Education and Science and are printed at Uchkun printing house. On average, it takes from one to three years to create a textbook,» Amatov explained.
