Iran denies plans for second round of talks with United States

AKIPRESS.COM – Iran currently has no plans or schedule for a second round of negotiations with the United States, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said.

Speaking to the Tasnim news agency, Baghaei stated that Tehran will base its decision regarding any future diplomatic meetings on Washington’s actual conduct. He noted that violations of agreements concerning Lebanon and attempts to impose a maritime blockade on Iran have further eroded Tehran’s trust in American intentions, prompting the government to reconsider the continuation of the negotiation process.

The spokesperson’s statement follows a declaration by U.S. President Donald Trump on April 19, who claimed that talks with Iran were scheduled to take place on the evening of April 20 in Islamabad. However, the Iranian state news agency IRIB reported that Tehran does not intend to participate in new discussions with the American delegation.

According to reports from Axios, Iranian officials suspect that the proposed negotiations could serve as a distraction or cover for potential military action against the country. The first stage of these high-level talks was previously held on April 11.
