The earthquake resistance of 40 schools in Kyrgyzstan will be improved, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. The construction and renovation of schools is being carried out as part of the Enhancing Resilience to Disaster Risks in the Kyrgyz Republic (ERIK) project.
According to the ministry, construction of eight schools has been completed, 15 are currently under construction, and 17 are undergoing renovation.
The project aims to strengthen the seismic resistance of school buildings, introduce energy-efficient technologies, and improve water supply and sanitation facilities. It is being implemented with financial support from the World Bank.
Schools were selected for renovation based on their level of seismic risk and the number of students.
Five schools will be renovated in Issyk-Kul region. In Toktogul village, Ak-Suu district, construction of the Aseyin Sydykbekov school is nearing completion. The new two-story building is designed for 225 students.
