In a world shaped by rapid change and growing challenges, Kuwait continues to carry a longstanding message centered on humanity, dialogue, and coexistence. Recognized regionally and internationally for its humanitarian role, today, that vision is being carried forward through a new generation.
The Peace Ambassadors Program, launched by Kuwait’s Public Authority for Youth, reflects this commitment by investing in young people and empowering them to become active contributors within their communities. The initiative seeks to strengthen social awareness and encourage a culture rooted in empathy, and civic participation.
The initiative was developed by youth and governance specialist Daham Al-Shammari, Head of Care and Support for Gifted and Distinguished Youth at the Public Authority for Youth and a graduate of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). Drawing on more than 15 years of experience in youth development and community initiatives, Al-Shammari designed the program to connect international concepts with the realities and aspirations of Kuwaiti youth.
Equally important is the initiative’s alignment with Kuwait Vision 2035, the national development roadmap that places human capital and youth empowerment at the center of Kuwait’s future. The vision recognizes young people as one of the country’s greatest assets and emphasizes preparing a generation capable of leadership, and social responsibility.
Within this framework, the program contributes to national priorities focused on strengthening social cohesion, encouraging moderation and tolerance, supporting youth participation, and reinforcing Kuwait’s humanitarian identity.
The Peace Ambassadors Program is rooted in major international and regional frameworks, most notably United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security, adopted unanimously in 2015. The resolution marked an important shift in recognizing young people as essential partners in building peaceful and sustainable societies.
The initiative also draws upon United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, highlighting the important role women play in building inclusive and sustainable communities, emphasizing the value of empowering women and youth alike as partners in dialogue and development.
In addition, the program reflects the broader objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by promoting quality education, encouraging inclusive participation, strengthening community engagement, and supporting partnerships that contribute to sustainable social development.
Through its focus on youth empowerment and constructive communication, the initiative reinforces the importance of building stronger and more connected communities while creating opportunities for young people to play an active role in shaping a positive and sustainable future.
One of the program’s notable aspects is its inclusive age range, targeting participants between the ages of 18 and 35. By bringing together individuals from different stages of life and professional backgrounds, reflecting the importance of continuous growth and shared understanding.
Delivered online over three interactive days, the program combines discussions, and practical exercises designed to encourage participation and creative thinking. The first day focuses on foundational concepts surrounding youth, dialogue, and international frameworks.
The second day addresses topics such as respectful communication, environmental awareness, and the role of women in community development, while encouraging participants to replace negativity and exclusion with communication rooted in empathy and mutual respect.
The third and final day focuses on transforming knowledge into action. Participants work together to design realistic community initiatives centered on youth dialogue, environmental awareness, women’s empowerment, and positive social engagement.
Throughout the program, the concept of the “peace ambassador” is presented not simply as a title, but as a mindset based leading through positive example.
Plans are already in place to continue expanding the initiative through mentorship opportunities and alumni engagement, and youth-led community projects designed to create long-term impact.
Ultimately, the Peace Ambassadors Program reflects Kuwait’s continued belief that investing in young people is one of the most meaningful investments any society can make.
Its message to youth is both simple and hopeful, reinforcing that real change begins with awareness and the willingness to build a more united and inclusive world. Young people have the ability not only to shape the future, but to lead positive change within their communities and help create a better future for all.
