GCC Supreme Council adopts statement after extraordinary session in Doha

The Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held an extraordinary meeting on Monday in Doha on the implications of the blatant Israeli occupation aggression on Qatar and adopted a final statement.

The statement reads as follow:

  1. The Supreme Council strongly condemned the Israeli occupation aggression and blatant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, asserting that this aggressive act represents a serious and unacceptable escalation and a violation of the principles of international law and the United Nations charter.
  2. The council affirmed full solidarity of the GCC states with the State of Qatar in all measures to confront this aggression, stressing that the security of the GCC states is indivisible, and that any aggression against any of them is an aggression on all of them, in accordance with the Joint Defense Agreement.
  3. The GCC leaders have directed the GCC Joint Defense Council to hold an urgent meeting in Doha, preceded by a meeting of the Higher Military Committee. The purpose is to assess the defense situation of the member states and the threat sources in light of the Israeli occupation aggression against the State of Qatar, to direct the Unified Military Command to take the necessary executive measures to activate joint defense mechanisms and Gulf Deterrence capabilities.
  4. The Supreme Council affirmed that the brutal Israeli occupation aggression against the State of Qatar poses a direct threat to joint Gulf security and to regional peace and stability. The Council believes that the continuation of these aggressive policies undermines efforts to achieve peace and the future of existing understandings and agreements with the Israeli occupation, as it carries serious implications for the stability of the entire region.
  5. The Supreme Council called on the Security Council, the international community, and influential states to assume their full responsibilities and take firm and deterrent measures to stop these violations, which have undermined the prestige of international law and the authority of its institutions.
  6. The Supreme Council urged the international community to deter the Israeli occupation and put an end to its repeated violations of international law, as well as called on all countries and international organizations to condemn the Occupation’s aggression to protect civilians.
  7. The council commended the efforts made by the relevant security and defense authorities in the State of Qatar in their immediate handling of the incident, containing its repercussions, and safeguarding the safety of citizens and residents.
  8. The council stressed that the attack obstructs the diligent efforts made by the State of Qatar and its role in mediating a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of the hostages and detainees, and alleviation of the Palestinian people’s suffering. The attacks made by the Israeli occupation against several countries in the region is an obstacle towards international efforts aimed at peace and security.
  9. The council stressed the need of adhering to United Nations principles, international treaties and agreements, respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, resolving disputes by peaceful means, and refraining from the use or threat of force.
  10. The leaders expressed their thanks to brotherly Arab and Islamic nations, and to friendly nations in the international community, which were quick to condemn the brutal Israeli occupation aggression and declare solidarity with the State of Qatar.
  11. The Supreme Council called upon nations of the world to condemn the brutal Israeli occupation aggression against the State of Qatar and its crimes of genocide in the Gaza Strip. These crimes include displacing and starving the population, disrupting humanitarian aid, as well as killing journalists, essential workers, and humanitarian crews.
