General Administration of Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of suspected narcotic pills at the Al-Salmi Border Crossing.

According to officials, a traveler arriving from Saudi Arabia was stopped at the inspection area, where customs officers discovered approximately 1,391 pills believed to be the substance Lyrica concealed inside his vehicle in an effort to smuggle the contraband into the country, reports Al-Rai daily.

Authorities confirmed that all necessary legal procedures have been taken against the suspect.

The Customs authorities stressed the inspectors remain vigilant 24/7 even during the ongoing circumstances in the region and amid continued vigilance, noting that inspection systems are operating at the highest technological standards to detect suspicious shipments and vehicles.

Officials also highlighted the readiness and professionalism of customs personnel, emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding the country and confronting smuggling attempts under all circumstances.
